What is AAC?

AAC is short for Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Augmentative Communication is when you add or supplement something to speech to make a message clearer to the listener. When you are unable to speak or your speech is not understood by others, you need a different way to communicate i.e. Alternative Communication.

AAC can be tools, devices, systems, or strategies which can help a person communicate, when they cannot rely on speech. Perhaps you have lost your ability to speak because of an accident. Perhaps your child has not started talking. Perhaps you have a difficulty to express for whatever reason may be. AAC can help!

Who is Hopetimism for?

There are many reasons why a person may not be able to communicate using speech. They may have acquired a disorder that has affected their ability to speak. They may have a developmental disability which has affected the development of speech. Many people with different communication difficulties, speech impairments and disorders can benefit from AAC.
